At Adobe Animal Hospital we strive to make positive contributions to our Petaluma Community.  Here’s some of what we’ve been up to lately.

April 2019- We’re putting the “treat” in treatment for your pets

We’ve always been committed to making your pet’s experience here at our hospital as comfortable and easy as possible.   We are the only Gold Certified Cat Friendly Practice in Petaluma.  In the past year we’ve taken things to the next level.  Our veterinarians and support team have undergone hundreds of hours of continuing education and coursework to achieve certification in Low Stress Handling and Fear Free patient care.

Of course it’s not about the “certificate”,  its about your pets, our patients!  These revolutionary new approaches to patient care have such positive effects.  By reducing fear and anxiety in your cat or dog,  we can provide even better care for them.

January 2018- Compassion Without Borders Orthopedic Surgery

Dr. Stemwedel and RVT Nicole recently volunteered their Sunday at a surgery clinic for dogs rescued by Compassion Without Borders.
One of our patients was little Candace, rescued by CWB from an overcrowded shelter in Fresno. Candace had a broken hip that she had been suffering with for a long time.
Dr. Stemwedel and Nicole performed an FHO surgery- removing the broken portion of the femur and allowing Candace’s hip to heal so she can run around pain-free in her new home!

April 2017-  Petaluma Police Department K9s

Dr. Stemwedel and Dr. Dekleva are very proud to be the primary veterinarians for the Petaluma Police Department K9 Unit.   Keeping these dogs in peak condition is vital to the performance of their duties.   In recognition of the importance of the K9 unit to Petaluma, we are honored to be providing their veterinary examinations free of charge, as well as complimentary preventative medications for all the dogs.  Other aspects of their care will also be provided at low-cost or no cost.

Recently we provided the officers with an Emergency Kit for the each of the K9s,  including first aid supplies for injuries as well as for drug or toxin exposure.  Supplies were donated by Adobe Animal Hospital, Golden Gate Pharmacy, and Victor Medical.

We are honored to work with these dogs, and their awesome human partners!

February 2017- Veterinary Delegation to Cuba

Last week Dr. Stemwedel and some of her colleagues in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners visited Havana, Cuba.  The purpose of the Delegation was to foster friendship between veterinarians in Cuba and the US, and to discuss training and education standards, access to veterinary services in Cuba, and agriculture and food production in Cuba.

“We had an amazing trip.  Our diverse group consisted of ABVP specialist veterinarians from all over the US,  coming from small animal practice, large animal practice, and university teaching positions.  We were welcomed by officials from the agricultural and veterinary fields, and visited the veterinary school in Havana as well as a small community veterinary clinic.   We brought  donated supplies to the private vet clinic run by Aniplant, the only non-govermental animal protection group legally allowed in Cuba.”

Fall 2016

There are so many dogs and cats in need of homes, and so many wonderful organizations who help care for them and place them.  We’d like to tell you about two of these organizations that we work with here at Adobe.

Petaluma Pet Pals rescues dogs, puppies, cats and kittens at risk of euthanasia at high kill shelters in the Bay Area and beyond.

Azaya Ranch Sanctuary is a non-profit animal rescue and sanctuary in Petaluma.  What started out over twenty years ago as one woman’s passion, has now grown into a full-fledged rescue and sanctuary that exists to save animals from euthanasia and find them loving, forever homes.

Both of these groups do amazing work for the animals in their care.  We are very pleased to be able to offer veterinary care for these rescued dogs and cats at a discount, so that they can help as many pets as possible.  If you are considering adopting a pet,  please think of these rescues.

We are also proud to support:

Petaluma Wildlife Museum

Girls on the Run

Casa Grande High School Lunch Buddies

Petaluma High School and Casa Grande Sports programs

Petaluma Kids Gran Fondo

We are proud to be a sponsor of the Petaluma Kids Gran Fondo.  Each year, through kid-activated fundraising and a team effort from the Petaluma community, the PKGF raises money for families of children dealing with life-threatening illnesses or disabilities.  Some of our team set up a booth at the event with dog and cat themed fun for all!

Redwood Empire Food Bank-  Summer 2016

We have been ongoing supporters of the Redwood Empire Food Bank for several years,  including hosting holiday food drives.  This summer our staff is volunteering for the Summer Lunch Program,  which provides healthy lunches for children during the summer when school lunch is not available.

July 2016

We’re moved into our new hospital building at 408 Madison St.  We are very proud of our new facility and are looking forward to providing even better service for our clients and our patients!

  • Wellness and Vaccinations

We know that preventive care is the most effective and least expensive means of protecting a pet’s well being. That’s why pets need yearly nose-to-tail checkups (twice yearly for pets over 8 years old). Our pets age faster than we do, making regular checkups that much more important.

  • Dental Care for Dogs and Cats

Up to 80% of adult dogs and cats have dental disease. Prevention and treatment of periodontal disease will prolong your pet’s life significantly. People go to the dentist every six months for a reason. The same reasons apply to our pets.
Adobe Animal Hospital provides comprehensive dentistry and oral surgery for your pet.

  • Surgery and Orthopedics

We give the highest priority to ensure your cat or dog’s surgery is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.  We are proud to offer orthopedic surgeries such as fracture repair,  cruciate ligament surgery, and patella surgery, as well as soft tissue and abdominal surgery.

  • Ultrasound and Endoscopy

    Diagnostic testing
Adobe Animal Hospital is a full service veterinary hospital, with in-house laboratory testing, digital xray, ecg, ultrasound and more on site. We also work with local specialists to bring you the best care for your best friend.

  • Skin and Ear Care

Our doctors and staff love a dermatology challenge! Skin and ear problems are the most common reason that pets, particularly dogs, visit us here at Adobe Animal Hospital. By spending time on a thorough medical history and physical exam, along with appropriate diagnostic testing, we can help you restore your itchy friend to comfort and good health.

About Us

We believe that a gentle, low stress environment goes hand in hand (and hand in paw) with great medical care.
Keeping your pet happy and comfortable during their visit with us is a priority.
